About the event

The Las Catalinas mountain biking trails stretch through the heart of a 1000 acre tropical dry forest nature reserve, featuring a mix of technical climbs, fluid flow riding, and challenging descents along more than 42km of singletrack. Race along coastal cliffside, through forested hills, and down into the rich tropical valleys as you compete for the best time. 

Ranging from September 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020, the Las Catalinas Reto route features categories for both local and non-local riders in male, female, under 15, and team divisions, with cash awards for fastest ascent and descent, fastest overall time, most completed loops, and more, all tracked through the Strava app. 

To enter, simply register at this link, or by clicking on the Register tab at the top of the page. All registrations come with a year long membership and trail pass, as well as special rates on stays at the Santarena Hotel or with vacation rental homes in town.

To sign up as a team,  on your registration form choose Local team or Non-local team in the Division dropdown and then input your team name in the space provided.

 

(*) What discounts come with any membership you select?

For the duration of the Reto Series(from 1/9/19 through 31-5-20), members will receive a 15% discount on additional Santarena Hotel Pass, 15% discount on stays at Santarena Hotel, 15% discount on stays at Las Catalinas Collection and a 15% discount on meals at Ponciana and Limonada restaurants.
To receive your discount, simply show your completed loop of the documented Las Catalinas Reto course on your Strava app to Concierge for lodging discounts or your server for discounts on meals. Loop must have been completed within 24 hours of discount request.

How is Local versus Non-local defined? 

Local is defined as being inside a 25km radius of Las Catalinas and Non-Local is outside of a 25km radius of Las Catalinas.

What is a Las Catalinas Annual Trail Pass?

A pass that allows access to our trails for the year, with all proceeds going towards the maintenance and upkeep of our 42 kilometers of biking/hiking trails here at Las Catalinas.

What is a Santarena Hotel Pass? 

It includes the use of a room at Santarena Hotel, and all of its amenities including valet parking for 2 people from 10 am to 6pm.

Reto Registration 2

 

Reto Step 1 To register, all riders must select a Membership Type and proceed to complete the registration form. As part of the registration, all riders must accept the Las Catalinas Trail System and Outdoor Activities Policies, which can be found in the registration page.

Reto Step 2 Upon completion, you will receive an invite to the Las Catalinas Reto MTB Series 2019/2020 Club on Strava. On the Strava Club page, you will find route details and the club leaderboard, be able to connect and chat with other club members, compare your training, and view recent accomplishments.

Reto Rules 2

  • No Refunds
  • The course will be marked with signage and you must follow the direction that the signage designates. DO NOT GO IN THE REVERSE DIRECTION EVER!
  • No E-bikes or pedal assisted bikes of any kind allowed.
  • Each rider should choose a category according to their age as of September 1, 2019.
  • Racers should carry their own health insurance.
  • At all times when participating in, preparing for, or mounted on a bike, you shall wear a securely fastened helmet that is approved by a national accredited testing authority, like the US DOT standards or the CPSC standard for bicycle helmets.
  • Headphones of any kind are NOT permitted during a Reto. Ignorance is not an excuse.
  • A rider will be suspended from the Reto series for damaging or destroying public or private property or littering on the course. (Gel and Gu packets included)
  • Dogs and mountain bikes don’t mix. It is strongly advised to leave your hound at home. If you must bring the pup, please keep it on a leash at all times. All the riders will thank you.
  • Affix your Reto sticker to your helmet.
