How to get to Las Catalinas?

Las Catalinas is a walkable, car-free town located on the coast of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, which encourages and supports a healthy, sustainable and fun lifestyle. Within Las Catalinas, you’ll find a little bit of everything: houses, shops, squares, restaurants, small hotels, parks, and recreation facilities. But the town is more than the sum of its parts. In Las Catalinas, beautiful spaces with timeless traditional architecture intertwine with nature, and the urban design is ideal for outdoor living and exploring on foot. Every street leads to scenic overlooks and every home frames spectacular views. The absence of cars is refreshing, and a constant movement of residents and visitors daily enriches life in town. 

Beyond town, nature awaits. Mountains and valleys covered with tropical forests are just steps away along single-track trails. And waiting on the other side of town are two of the best beaches in all of Costa Rica: Playa Danta and Dantita, which offer great opportunities for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling along volcanic rock reefs, and enjoying the waves.

It is across this beautiful town, trails, and calm waters that the Las Catalinas Triathlon and Open Water has been held on the first Saturday of February every year, and has grown into a unique event in the country thanks to the incredible beauty of its surroundings, both natural and manmade, and thanks to the fact that the race takes place entirely in an environment with zero motor vehicles.

For all these reasons, Las Catalinas is the ideal place to host these sports competitions on the first Saturday of February of each year.
